A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed on a tooth. The Woodlands dental crowns are some of the best dental crowns in the region.

A dental crown can be used for many different purposes. They can be used for the protection of teeth, restoration of damaged teeth, holding a dental bridge in place and even for cosmetic modification.

Regardless of the reason you may decide to get a dental crown installed, you will have to choose a type of crown. The doctor will typically recommend a dental crown that is more suitable to your condition but it is better if you know them yourself.

The different types of dental crowns include:

Stainless Steel Crowns

These types of dental crowns are usually used on permanent teeth for protection. They are fabricated dental crowns used to temporarily cover the tooth while a more permanent crown is made.

Stainless steel crowns have to be made to fit the tooth. However, they are very effective protective measures against further tooth decay. Stainless steel crowns are very durable and require little maintenance hence they are usually placed on children’s teeth. They are also incredibly cost effective.

Metal Crowns

Other than stainless steel, there are also other metals used to make dental crowns. These crowns are usually made from base metal alloys such as cobalt, nickel, and chromium.

Metal alloy crowns are the best at withstanding wear and tear since they handle chewing and biting well. These crowns are also very durable because they do not chip or break easily. Since they are not easily damaged, they also cost less in maintenance making them a cost-effective dental solution. However, for dental crowns that include metals such as gold, it is an entirely different story.

Many people also may not prefer metallic dental crowns due to the color contrast. Therefore, they are often used to cover out of sight molars.

Porcelain-Metal Crowns

There are dental crowns made from a fusion of metal and porcelain. The porcelain is included so as to match the color of your teeth.

However, porcelain fused to metal dental crowns usually results in more damage to the adjacent teeth than other types of dental crowns. They can also lead to gum damage if the porcelain is eroded. The porcelain on such crowns tends to break off or become chipped.

Porcelain metal crowns are typically used for front or back teeth for extra strength. They can also be used alongside dental bridges.

All Resin Crowns

All resin dental crowns are the cheapest of the bunch. Therefore, if you need a dental crown on a budget, they are your best bet.

On the other hand, they are damaged quicker and more easily than other types of crowns since they are prone to fractures.

All-Ceramic or All-Porcelain Crowns

These crowns are more compatible in terms of teeth color than any other type of crown on this list. They are also more advisable for people with allergies to metal who would not like metallic dental crowns.

Due to their color, they are typically used for front teeth that can be easily seen.
